Since The second world war, America has provided the world with stability that only comes when there is a balance of power such as the one the US military provides. When America doesn’t stand strong, the enemies of peace wake up and cause chaos around the world.
As if it’s almost an instant change, the world is a very different place under the Biden administration than what it was during the 4 years of Trump’s Presidency. We can tell you why Donald Trump’s legacy will be his foreign policy, which altho was strong, negotiated with brilliance we have not seen in a very long time. Donald Trump knew the importance of negotiating from a position of strength. This doesn’t mean he was a bully but knew that, in diplomacy, in order to get what you want, you need to apply pressure, while offering a way out.
For example, with North Korea, the Trump administration made it clear, that there will be no lifting of sanctions against the hermit state. In fact, more sanctions were laid, and further pressure put on North Korea’s allies like China. From this position, the USA had the strength to be making the demands, and should the demands not be met, the pressure would stay. This same strategy was implemented in Afghanistan, where under Trump’s administration, talks took place with the Taliban, a move that no other US president dared to take. The idea was that a favorable solution to the war could be met if the Taliban were to give up some of their hard-liner Muslim teachings, in return for the freedom to participate in the running of Afghanistan, and of course, the laying down of their arms.
In a very real display of the Biden administration’s lack of skill in the negotiations department, Biden recently announced that all US forces would be leaving Afghanistan by the 11th of September 2021. It sounds great, America’s heroes will be returning home! However, what Biden just did was signal to the Taliban that all they need to do is wait a few more months and they can get everything they want, without agreeing to the American terms.
As if the timing was perfect, the Biden Administrations’ diplomatic failure has not only caused a major conflict in the Middle East, It has also damaged relations between Israel and the USA. Israel has effectively told the US administration to stay out of its current conflict with the Palestinian enclave.
