Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who voted to impeach Donald Trump and sided with Democrats to investigate the January 6 riots on Capitol Hill, lost her primary election against Trump-backed candidate Harriet Hageman in Wyoming.
Cheney won her 2020 primary election with the support of 73% of voters, but this time, she only managed to win 29% of votes.
Trump-Backed Lawyer Defeated Cheney
Last month, Liz Cheney argued that she was working hard to earn every single vote in the Wyoming primary elections.
Furthermore, the moderate Republican lawmaker insisted she would always choose to protect the Constitution of the United States, even if it means losing her House seat.
Liz Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also backed her in her campaign against Trump.
Dick Cheney asserted his daughter is walking the right path by going against Trump, as he is the single biggest threat to the United States in the 246-year-long history of the country.
Political observers suggested Liz Cheney was bound to lose her primary election by going against Trump in a state where Trump won 70% of the votes in the 2020 presidential election.
In her campaign, Cheney relied mostly on Democrats at a time when Republican voters were leading in the voter registration drives across the state of Wyoming.
The campaign ad of the congresswoman asked Democrats and Independent voters to protect the Constitution of the country by backing her candidacy.
However, not many Democrats switched party lines to vote for her in the primary elections, leading to Cheney’s defeat by nearly 37 percentage points.

Cheney Vowed to Stop Trump From Becoming President Again
During her concession speech, Cheney emphasized even after her loss in the House primary, her job is far from over. She will do everything to stop Trump from winning the White House again.
Likewise, Cheney established she won her primary elections by taking more than 73% of votes in 2020. She had a choice to do the same this year by backing Trump, but still, she preferred to protect the Constitution.
In addition to that, Cheney insisted Trump took advantage of the patriotism of Americans by forcing them to attack the democratic institutions of the country.

Some political observers believe Cheney will face a political crisis after her defeat in the primary elections.
This is due to the fact she has already been rejected by Republicans. She will struggle to impress most of the Democratic voters, considering she is an anti-abortion lawmaker.
Cheney’s defeat also suggests Trump still influences the decision of the Republican voters to a significant extent. Out of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, four have retired; only two have managed to win their primary elections.
In the Senate elections, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who voted to impeach Trump in his trial, will be facing reelection in November.
