The Republican Party remains largely opposed to the American Rescue Plan from President Biden. More than 90% of the $1.9 trillion package goes towards matters completely detached from coronavirus. Conservatives ultimately can’t get behind the American Rescue Plan because it does not provide COVID-19 relief as advertised.

At this point, Biden is very much aware that his spending package lacks bipartisan support. He’s also aware that even certain moderate Democrats have their reservations about the American Rescue Plan. Because of the 50/50 party split in the Senate, Biden can’t afford to lose the moderate votes from his party members.

In light of these details, the 46th president has agreed to make the eligibility for $1,400 stimulus payment more targeted, Breitbart News confirms.

Biden’s Olive Branch to Moderate Democrats

Republicans are staunchly against the American Rescue Plan; however, this doesn’t mean they haven’t attempted to work with the Democrats.

Last month, a Republican congresswoman introduced a proposal that would provide funds for children struggling with mental health issues due to lockdowns; Democrats promptly voted this down, instead deciding that funding ought to go towards Pelosi’s subway in California.

Because Biden has alienated Republican senators regarding this spending package, he needs every single Democrat to vote in favor. Moderate Democrat senators have stated before that the $1,400 stimulus checks ought to be more targeted to individuals most in need of them.

To get these senators on board with the American Rescue Plan, the 46th president has agreed that individuals earning over $80,000 annually and married couples earning more than $160,000 will not get stimulus checks. This marks a slight shift from the $100,000 and $200,000 eligibility caps that previously existed.

Beyond the American Rescue Plan

The Biden administration has much to contend with aside from the goal of passing the American Rescue Plan.

Right now, the current administration is working to convince Americans that no crisis remains ongoing at the Southern border; although, former acting DHS secretary Chad Wolf is already claiming that the president is lying.

Furthermore, the Biden administration is working with Democrat lawmakers to ram through a series of restrictive anti-gun bills. This push for gun control, like much else to come from the Biden White House, is deeply polarizing and partisan.
