Several speakers from President Trump to Scott Pressler, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Eric Trump, Lara Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and others spoke at the event. Furthermore, congressional Republicans were called upon to resist today’s proceedings designed to solidify Joe Biden as the next president.

Prior to the Save America rally, there were concerns about the demonstrations turning violent. Today, as Breitbart News confirms, violence and mayhem quickly befell the nation’s capital.

Violence on Capitol Hill

At around 1:50 PM, reports of a pipe bomb outside of the U.S. Capitol became public. Multiple members of Congress had to either evacuate their offices or barricade themselves inside as a result; this left the U.S. Capitol police to arrive on the scene and try to defuse the rapidly escalating situation. Around this same period, reports of gunfire outside the Capitol were also made public.

Then, shortly after 2:15 PM, protesters in Washington D.C. actually stormed Capitol Hill and made their way inside the building. Protesters walked up the stairs, as seen in video footage, and demanded to speak with lawmakers regarding the congressional certification of Biden as the next president.

Minutes after this, the entire U.S. Capitol went on lockdown. For obvious safety reasons, Vice President Mike Pence was escorted from the premises and U.S. lawmakers hunkered down inside, guarded by the men and women of law enforcement.

Several conservatives tweeted out against the displays of violence in D.C. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise noted that Capitol Police officers once saved his life; likewise, President Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and others condemned the violence, called for de-escalation.

The Public Fallout

The fallout from the demonstrations in D.C. is pretty astronomical. Due to today’s events, the city’s mayor put the nation’s capital on a 6:00 PM curfew. National Guard members were called in to clear the halls of the U.S. Capitol and President Trump himself released a video statement, urging supporters to respect law enforcement and “go home in peace.”

Democrats have seized the opportunity to use today’s events as an opportunity to call Trump supporters violent, dangerous, terrorists, etc. There are countless videos and images online of the protests, breach into the U.S. Capitol, and more.
