Most California Voters Back Newsom Over Biden in 2024 Democratic Primary

In less than two years, Joe Biden’s managed to alienate a significant portion of his own base. His responses to challenges facing the nation, along with lackluster deliveries regarding issues that Democrats value, have the party looking elsewhere.

Over the past several months, left-wing strategists and operatives have begun penning opinion pieces of all the reasons Biden shouldn’t run in 2024. In spite of this, the White House remains adamant that the current president will seek reelection.

However, just because Biden runs for reelection doesn’t mean he’ll make it to the general race. If enough Democrats are sick of Biden by the time the 2024 election season rolls around, he could very much be effectively primaried out of the race.

Meanwhile, a new poll shows that most voters in the blue state of California back Gov. Gavin Newsom as the 2024 Democratic nominee over Biden or even Vice President Kamala Harris, per Newsmax.

Bad News For the Biden Administration

The California governor has been consistently making moves that lead Americans to think he’ll run for president in 2024. Earlier this summer, Newsom got the country talking when he ran political ads in the red states of Florida and Texas.

This isn’t typical for a blue state governor who’s only focusing on reelection in his own state.

However, the poll by University of California at Berkeley shows 25% of Californians support their governor as either the initial choice or the runner-up for the Democratic nomination.

61%, on the other hand, expressed that Biden has no business pursuing a second term in office during this time. Only 15% of California voters are supportive of the vice president running for the White House in 2024 if Biden steps out of the race as he’s been urged to do.

In California, Biden’s approval rating stands at just 48%, while another 48% of the state’s residents don’t approve of the work he’s doing in office.

Will Newsom Run?

Whether or not the California governor actually runs in the 2024 presidential election remains to be seen. Right now, Newsom is working to secure another term as governor, a feat that he’s likely to achieve.

Newsom has not spoken out about running for the White House as of late. However, he’s sparred with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Coincidentially, DeSantis is also widely viewed as a possible 2024 candidate, only on the GOP side.

Over the past few weeks, there’s been some chatter on social media about a DeSantis vs. Newsom 2024 presidential race. Time will tell whether one or either of these governors decides to pursue the White House.
