Defending America’s Streets: The Deployment of National Guard by Columbia President

26

As tensions continue to rise across the United States, one can't help but wonder how our great nation will maintain law and order. In the wake of widespread protests and riots, Columbia University's President Minouche Shafik recently announced her decision to deploy the National Guard to maintain peace on campus. While some may applaud this move, others are left questioning the motives behind it.

As a staunch conservative, I firmly believe in the protection of our constitutional rights and the preservation of law and order. However, the deployment of the National Guard on a university campus raises serious concerns. This move not only goes against the fundamental principles of academic freedom, but it also sets a dangerous precedent for the militarization of our educational institutions.

Let's not forget, the National Guard is primarily trained for combat situations, not for dealing with peaceful protests. Their presence on campus could escalate tensions and potentially lead to unnecessary violence. Additionally, the cost of deploying the National Guard falls on the taxpayers, who are already burdened with the economic impact of the ongoing pandemic. Is this really the most efficient and effective solution for maintaining peace on campus?

Furthermore, President Shafik's decision to deploy the National Guard seems to be based on a flawed understanding of the situation. In her statement, she claims that the campus has been a target for violent protests. However, this assertion is not backed by any evidence. In fact, the protests at Columbia have been peaceful and have not resulted in any significant damage or violence.

It is clear that President Shafik's decision to call in the National Guard is politically motivated. It serves as a distraction from the real issues that are plaguing our society. Instead of addressing the root causes of these protests and finding solutions, she has chosen to use force and suppress the voices of those who are peacefully protesting for change.

As a conservative, I believe in upholding the rule of law and supporting our law enforcement agencies. However, the deployment of the National Guard on a university campus goes beyond the scope of their duties. It undermines the authority of the local police and creates a militaristic environment that is not conducive to a healthy learning environment.

In conclusion, the decision to deploy the National Guard by Columbia President Minouche Shafik is a misguided and politically driven move. It not only violates the principles of academic freedom but also sets a dangerous precedent for the militarization of our educational institutions.

As citizens, we must demand accountability from our leaders and question their actions that go against our values and beliefs. Let us stand together and defend America's streets without compromising our fundamental rights and freedoms.

  1. These kids need to understand what they’re doing for th eir constitutional right is violating someones else’s Jewish and non radical stones have a right to go to school as well as those professors These dumb young kids are supporting terrorism it’s time they’re arrested and send them to Gaza Let Them Fight the Israelis so they get a hardcore Awakening as to exactly how dangerous treacherous and brutal Hamas is by putting civilians in front of them they’re a bunch of punk ass little sissy. Paragraph these kids need to learn that first hand bottom line pack your ass up send them out of this country you revoke their visas and their ability to be in this country nor can they be allowed to show this b******* against one of our stuntous allies who is doing nothing wrong but depending their own self I’m sick and tired of the work liberal do as I say not as I do what’s good for me is not good for you b******* kick their ass out of school kick their ass out of my country they are no longer welcome to here goodbye

  2. You are ntirely wrong. I am a conservative with a long history civil rights litigation as a trial attorney and this is not a freedom of speech issue. It a violation of the civil right of Jewish students and others who have a legitimate right to be on campus and attend class without fear, intimidation, or violence. The Supreme Court made it very clear in its decisions a long time ago that there are limits to freedom of speech when it starts violence or encourages it threatening harm to persons or property. The Protetesters are organized and used to not only violate the other students civil rights and the limits of freedom of speech, but are clearly aimed at nothing but hatred and violence, even against the United States.

  3. This protest violates the principles of academic freedom of ALL students. All the protestors should be arrested and suspended for supporting a terrorist group and cleared out from campus by the police dept. This is a place for education not for protesting. Students shouldn’t have to fear being on campus and be able to get back to class.

  4. If you support Hamas, you need to leave this country immediately and go live with the Palestinians and see how that works for you!

  5. What happened to tear gas and rubber bullets. They hurt but don’t kill. Arrest people who are not in the college and through the terrorist in jail and throw away the key.

  6. This article is clearly written by a pro Palestinian liberal. Yes, I believe in the rights of individuals to peacefully protest. But to take over the grounds of a university to disrupt the educational system and yell racial slurs and threats at other students? This is not the place for such activity. They need to take their BS to the street and let the institution of learning be a place for just that. But that is the liberal mindset. You don’t agree with something, so you just want to shut everything down so you can whine and scream and make it all about you. And in true liberal fashion, once they are told to disband, they will then resort to their usual tactic of burning and violence. So yes, calling for the National Guard is completely justified in this instance.

  7. The National Guard is trained in a wide variety of activities beyond combat. Keeping the peace is certainly one of them. When college student mods gather to sometimes violently protest, which is a common for liberals or demonRATS it is perfectly appropriate to have the N.G. called in to assist local police department. When the mob is protesting in favor of an activity used by a terrorist group within a country it is more than appropriate. Terrorism is never an activity that Americans should support.

  8. I think the national guard is a wise choice…some of these gatherings can easily turn violent, if not already. BUT, in addition, I think all protestors should be arrested and those who are on student visas should be deported immediately. None of these students protesting is in class. They not doing anything productive in society. They are a burden on our democracy. If they’re American, expel them from the school. Time to get tough on the problem…around the country, wherever this is happening.

  9. Where are the parents of the students that are protesting .
Is the University a microcosm of our society where the entitled think that nothing has value .
I would ask this question of the protesters, who believes that Jews were killed by the tens of millions by the Germans in WW2.
My guess none believe it happened .
If they do believe it why are they protesting.
Israel is protecting their citizens from monsters like the Nazi’s.
    Extermination by any means.
Arrest them all and expel them from the University.

  10. The demonstrators have the right to speak but have no right to be heard. That right belongs to everyone else in the form of their right to listen or not listen. Allowing demonstrators to demonstrate anywhere they want leads to a violation of the rights of others to go about their activities without harassment or interference. If the demonstrators insist on infringing on the rights of others and the only available remedy is the National Guard then that is what must be used.

  11. Have you forgotten that it was a GOP governor who–rightly–called out the National Guard at Kent State after the communist demonstrators had trashed the business district of Kent, Ohio the night before?

  12. I don’t believe a college president has the authority to call in the national guard. The governor should be consulted first.

  13. No one gets hurt If you want to break them up, just do what we did during the pandemic on the college kids decided to not leave. So the police force brought in I guess it was the police force brought in helicopters and kids were whining and crying that you’re gonna kill them but you’re not doing anything but coming down till they start to dissipate.

  14. If this Columbia president had done her job much earlier, this mess would not be happening.
Now, she needs help! What a disgrace, a horrendous mess which could have been avoided at all costs. She should be fired. These students who have ties to terrorists should be deported & students should be expelled. They need to make an example or this sickness will continue.

  15. Our “higher halls of learning” have created this environment by imparting their leftist beliefs on their gullible students who are ignorant of history. The importance of historical knowledge cannot be overstated, as history does, indeed, repeat itself.

  16. What is happening on college campuses across America is the result of relentless indoctrination from Marxist-leaning professors who despise everything that America stands for. Academia has been poisoned and perverted by this traitorous, tenured group who have warped the minds of their students with their radical, subversive teachings. The time has come to tack back these campuses and some cracked skulls may be necessary to do so. These students are nothing but deluded asswipes who deserve to be expelled from their respective colleges.

  17. The college needs to be held accountable for their allowing these terrorists supporters to disrupt classes! Hold the rioting terrorists groups legally responsible for damages and blocking thoroughfares! Make breaking the laws a punishable act again, restore order from this chaotic destruction!

  18. I would like to know why collegians have been permitted, for decades, to believe it was their “right” to disrupt campuses with childish tantrums about 1 issue another that in no way pertains to their purpose for being there: education! Why were they not expelled immediately, since they clearly believe they don’t need education, and are not mature enough to behave responsibly as the young adults they are supposed to be? Where are the adults allegedly in charge of these campuses??? I blame the lack of discipline and co sequences as they were growing up for this; the patents and teachers who never taught them personal accountability for their behaviors!

  19. Every single one of these terrorist backed protestors should be expelled from each and everyone of these campuses, if they’re citizens. And then they need to ve arrested. If they aren’t citizens, they need to be arrested and then deported. There should be accountability for all of their actions.

This has gone on long enough. Since they want to adopt all if their teachings and ways, send to the countries they’re acting like to see how they exist. Then their maybe some respect for our American free country ways.
