A Texas woman says a group of women beat her bloody outside a Longview bar while chanting “Free Karmelo” — and now the FBI is involved.

Story Snapshot

  • Sammie Lee says she was attacked outside Whiskey Jay’s Bar in Longview, Texas, by multiple women who chanted “Free Karmelo” and said they were looking for “the smallest white girl they could find.”
  • One suspect, Ciarrianne Fuller, was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily injury. Two others later turned themselves in to police.
  • The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the case and is reviewing social media posts about possible retaliation tied to the Karmelo Anthony murder conviction.
  • Police have not officially called the attack a hate crime, and no determination has been made on racial motive — but the investigation is ongoing.

A Brutal Attack Outside a Texas Bar

Sammie Lee says she was outside Whiskey Jay’s Bar in Longview, Texas, when a group of women attacked her without warning. She says she never spoke to them first. Lee posted photos of her injuries on social media — a black eye, staples in her head, and a neck brace. She says the women chanted “Free Karmelo” during the attack and told her they were hunting for “the smallest white girl they could find.” [10]

Longview police arrested Ciarrianne Fuller, also listed in records as Sierrah Anne Fuller, on charges of assault causing bodily injury. Her bond was set at $20,000, and she was booked into Gregg County Jail. [1] Two other women — identified in social media posts as Dejae Brown and Alana Mumphrey — later turned themselves in to police. All three now face assault charges. [6]

FBI Steps In as Tensions Rise

The FBI joined the Longview Police Department’s investigation after officers spotted social media posts calling for retaliation following the Karmelo Anthony murder conviction. [4] Anthony was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison for stabbing Austin Metcalf, a white teenager, at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. [1] The “Free Karmelo” movement spread quickly online after the verdict, and police say they are now checking whether that movement played a role in the attack on Lee.

Longview Police spokesperson LaDarian Brown held a press conference to address public concern. Brown confirmed the FBI is reviewing online conversations about division and retaliation. However, Brown also stated clearly that there is “no threat to the public.” [4] Police have not officially labeled the assault a hate crime. Investigators are still working to determine whether it qualifies as one under the law.

Key Questions Still Unanswered

The most serious claims in this case — that the attackers chose Lee because she was white and that they were acting in support of Karmelo Anthony — come from Lee’s own account. No bar surveillance footage has been publicly released. No witness statements have been confirmed by police. Authorities have not yet verified that the attack was directly tied to Anthony’s supporters or his conviction. [9] The connection, while alarming, is still alleged rather than proven.

Major national news networks have largely ignored this story. Local outlets like KYTX CBS 19 and Fox News Digital have covered it, but CNN, NBC, and ABC have stayed quiet. Many conservatives are asking a fair question: if the races were reversed, would this be front-page news across every network? The double standard in media coverage is hard to ignore. Americans deserve honest reporting on violent crimes — no matter who the victim is. Justice should not depend on which way the story cuts politically.
