World Cup Cover: IRANIAN PLOT Exposed

A new Homeland Security report says Iran tried to sneak terror-linked operatives into our country by hiding them inside its World Cup delegation.

Story Snapshot

  • Homeland Security says Iran tried to pack its World Cup travel list with people tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
  • U.S. officials slashed Iran’s usual delegation size and blocked dozens of would‑be travelers from entering the country.
  • President Trump’s strict border policies and vetting are being credited with stopping the infiltration attempt.
  • The episode highlights how Iran’s terror machine uses sports, visas, and even fan tickets as tools of influence and cover.

DHS: Iran Tried to Hide IRGC Operatives in World Cup Delegation

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says Iran tried to use its 2026 World Cup delegation as a Trojan horse to slip terror-linked personnel into the United States.[1] In a television interview, Mullin explained that most national teams come with about 120 people, including players, coaches, doctors, trainers, and support staff.[1][2] For Iran, the United States approved entry for only 53 people because many others had what he called “direct ties” to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.[1][2]

Mullin said one man with direct links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was caught trying to board a plane the day before his comments.[1] He added that “the rest of the individuals” Iran tried to send also had Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps ties and were not part of the regime’s normal traveling group.[1][2] That means American officials judged that Tehran was not just sending athletes and real staff, but trying to sneak regime agents in under sports cover.[1][2]

Trump-Era Vetting and Rubio’s Early Warnings Pay Off

The Trump administration had already put Iran on notice that it would not allow the World Cup to become a back door for terrorists.[1][5] Earlier this month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told lawmakers that the United States had “no problem with the athletes” but would not let Iran embed people “who have nothing to do with athletics and have ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”[5] He said the government would watch the delegation “very closely” and deny visas in those cases.[1][5]

Those warnings matched how visas were actually handled. U.S. officials confirmed that all Iranian players, coaches, trainers, and essential support staff were approved to come, but that some applicants tied to the team were rejected for applying “under false pretenses.”[3][5] Iran’s own embassy complained that a “large portion” of its support staff were denied visas at the last minute.[5] In plain language, the Trump team let the soccer happen but blocked anyone they believed was trying to use the event as a free ticket into America.[3][4][5]

Iran Cries ‘Discrimination’ While Soccer System Shows Deep IRGC Ties

Iranian officials and players quickly tried to spin the story, accusing the United States of discrimination and saying the visa denials created “tension” around the World Cup.[3][5] The Iranian Football Federation has complained to soccer authorities and claims key staff are being kept out unfairly.[11][13] But these protests ignore years of reporting that show how deeply the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is woven into Iran’s sports system, especially soccer.[6][19]

An opposition report shared with American media alleges that at least fifteen current or former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders have held senior jobs in Iranian clubs, the national federation, or league management.[6][19] It describes stadiums and club offices being used to monitor fans, track dissidents, and punish athletes who step out of line.[6][19] Independent analysts also say the Guard sees sports not mainly as games, but as tools for social control and political power at home.[19][24] Against that backdrop, Iran’s outrage over strict U.S. screening looks far more like theater than truth.[3][6][19]

Why This Matters for Border Security and American Sovereignty

Mullin also warned that Iran has been testing our defenses in other ways, saying there has been an “unusual amount” of Iranian nationals with regime ties trying to sneak into the United States through the northern border with Canada.[2] He linked many of them to the same Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps network and called Iran an adversary that “you can’t trust.”[2] This fits with broader research showing Iranian security services use front groups and even criminal gangs abroad to run operations and hide their hand.[23]

For American readers who care about national sovereignty, the lesson is simple. A hostile regime whose security forces have a long record of terror, spying, and repression tried to turn the world’s biggest sports event into a loophole in our border.[1][2][6][19][23] Trump-era policies of tough vetting and reduced trust in Tehran stopped dozens of questionable travelers at the gate.[1][3][4][5] There is real tension around this World Cup—but it comes from Iran’s behavior, not from America insisting on its right to decide who sets foot on our soil.

  1. If there are any incidents that involved criminal acts in the U.S. during the World Cup matches or after, a selection of MOAB’s will be dropped on the capital city of Terhan to destroy their oil refining facilities and that island which processes the oil for tankers that transports the oil.
